Random Artist’s Corner: Christian Music Review of John Waller

Christian Music Review of John Waller

John Waller

Every song of John Waller’s is inspired by the word of God. You would think every Christian song would be born out of the studying of the Bible but they aren’t. Many times, they are based on something the artist is going through or a Biblical “concept” and not actually grounded in the word.

This makes for a slippery slope regarding the Biblical accuracy of Christian music. I discussed this point in “Why We Like Using MercyMe Songs to Brainwash“. It is so important to be sure you are singing songs that uphold the Bible and not disagree with it because it can influence your relationship with God.

You don’t have to worry about that with any John Waller song because he sings Bible verses. One of my favorites is “Bless Us and Keep Us”, which is Numbers 6:24-26 put to music. I sing this song to my babies at night as I lay them down.

John Waller isn’t an obscure artist, he worked on the soundtrack for the Christian movie, “Fireproof“. However, most Christians have never heard of him because as far as I can tell, his music doesn’t play on the radio.

That seems silly, right? The guy sings Bible verses but they don’t make it to Christian radio?

It doesn’t have anything to do with the quality or style of his music. The songs he composes are a very mellow, alternative style of music. There are a few that have an upbeat tempo but most of them are soothing songs, great to play as you wind down at the end of the day.

If you like to fall asleep listening to music, John Waller would be a great choice for that as well. I’m not saying he is Enya or anything, but he composes “easy-listening” songs.

The last album he came out with was in 2011 (besides his Christmas album), so I’m hoping he will make a new one soon because his music is so encouraging. When I’ve gone through challenging seasons, I find myself singing his songs more than usual.

If you are searching for an artist who writes songs that agree with the Bible, are relaxing to listen to, and grow your relationship with God, look no further, John Waller is your man!
