When I ask most Christians if they believe the Bible is true, they will honestly answer yes. But when life gets nitty gritty, they often don’t stick to the word of God because of their circumstances. So, I’m here to tell you-
God does not change based on your circumstances.
If the Bible is true, then God does not change: he is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8, Malachi 3:6
So, if the Bible says that God is good (Psalm 100:5, 136:1), why do bad things happen? We live in a fallen state and the enemy is the ruler of this world (Ephesians 2:2). He is going to try to get you to doubt God by shoving turmoil in your face that he has caused and, being ever so crafty, get you to blame it on God.
Why do children starve to death? Why are so many people homeless? Why is my mom a junky? Questions like this get us to focus on the bad and ask, “Why doesn’t a good God do something about this?” Ever heard the song “Do Something” by Matthew West?
I woke up this morning
Saw a world full of trouble now
Thought, how’d we ever get so far down
How’s it ever gonna turn around
So I turned my eyes to Heaven
I thought, “God, why don’t You do something?”
Well, I just couldn’t bear the thought of
People living in poverty
Children sold into slavery
The thought disgusted me
So, I shook my fist at Heaven
Said, “God, why don’t You do something?”
He said, “I did, I created you”
He created us to love our neighbors (Matthew 22:39) and he created to take care of the earth (Genesis 1:28), WE ARE SUPPOSE TO OVERCOME THE EVIL IN THIS WORLD.
How is that possible? Jesus says in John 16:33- you will have trouble in this world, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. And remember how I said that Jesus = You (1 John 4:17)? Because we are like Jesus in this world, we are to be over comers (like Mandisa says)!
So what, Amanda? You answered one of the hundreds of instances where God doesn’t change because of what we see. What about the fact that I can’t pay my bills and the Bible says that God is the provider?
The Bible clearly says in Phillipians 4:19, “God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Needs do not include an HBO bill, car payments, or your triple venti mocha. Perhaps, your “needs” perspective should to be revisted. However, I don’t have to answer this question in depth because the answer is this-
If the Bible is true, then God will meet all your needs despite what your bank account says.
Wait, what? My bank account is negative and you are telling me all my needs are met? It certainly doesn’t seem like it!
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Sound familiar? It is Hebrews 11:1. God calls you to believe his words even when your eyes do not see their fulfillment. Faith is everything. Faith is the answer to all these questions.
If you are going to take the stance in your life that the Bible is true, you must have faith. You cannot waiver based on what you see in front of you. Yes, that is extremely difficult, faith is a horse pill to swallow, it hurts going down. But, if you do it, you will see amazing miracles that change lives.
Faith is totally worth it.
